What does it take to have all the UK MONO mixes? (These are not all easy to aquire, and there are a few surprises). First, all the normal UK MONO albums from Please Please Me to The Beatles ("White Album"). The first four are available on CD. (This does not include Magical Mystery Tour). There was also a MONO UK Yellow Submarine album, but it does not contain any different mixes, as it was recombined to mono from the stereo mixes. One also needs all the UK MONO EP's. Be advised: if you have the UK EP boxed set, the MMT EP is in STEREO, and you will still need the MONO EP (not easy to find). Then you need all the MONO UK 7" vinyl singles or picture discs, or the 3" CD singles. One might then think you have a complete set of mono UK mixes - but no! In order to have the UK mono mix of Bad Boy, you need the MONO UK album A Collection Of Beatles Oldies. I have not yet been able to find this, so if anyone knows where I can get a copy, please let me know. The stereo version is on the Past Masters CD, the UK stereo A Collection of Beatles Oldies, and 1976 George Martin stereo remix for the Rock N' Roll Music LP. According to the book _Every Little Thing_: "The mono version (of Bad Boy) was heavily compressed, with the bass and drums mixed way up. The true stereo version ... had the rhythm section mixed softer in relation to John's vocal and George's lead guitar." Now I just compared the stereo version to the mono version on the US album BEATLES VI, and although the latter does sound compressed, I do not hear the differences in mixes. Is the US mono version different? Did Capitol recombine the stereo mix to mono? Did Dave Dexter change the mix? Are my ears failing me? Tom Bower, are you there?
